Area Expanding Near Harwood Pedestrian Bridge

Post Date:03/21/2019 1:35 PM

hardwood pedestrian bridgeThe Harwood Pedestrian Bridge connects State St. in the Village of Wauwatosa to Hart Park. On the south side of this bridge is a primary parking location. This area also hosts the Farmers markets during summer and is a key pedestrian access point.

As part of private construction (not by the City), the area on the north side of the bridge will be expanded. You'll notice a fence up already, as the contractor prepares to work there. We anticipate the contractor to install the beams that would support this expansion in mid to late April. The project is expected to be finished by mid to late May.

Pedestrians can use the bridge throughout most of the construction. Currently, there is about a 6 ft wide accessible area in the middle of the bridge (see photo on right). There may be a few days that construction will impact access to pedestrians.

The City will be working on the south side of the pedestrian bridge later this season. We will be making landscaping improvements in the area and installing a digital kiosk. Sign up for construction updates.
