Fire Station Tours

Fire stations can be an interesting and memorable educational experience for your children. Tours can be requested for both families in the community or community groups, such as scout groups.

Fire station tours can be conducted at any of our stations upon request during regular business hours.  Tours are conducted by the on-duty fire fighters and last roughly fifteen to thirty minutes.

Fire Safety Presentations for Schools

Fire safety presentations consist of a fire crew coming to your school and giving a short fire safety presentation inside of your classroom.

These presentations consist of going over fire safety plans, what to do in the event of a fire, and a firefighter putting on their turnout gear to show children what they will look like in the event of a fire.

These presentations generally last between fifteen to thirty minutes.  We do not conduct fire truck visits, tours, or displays as a part of these presentations.

Hands-Only CPR, Stop the Bleed, and CPR Training

CPR Training

CPR is a life-saving skill that anyone can learn. We offer adult, child, and infant CPR, as well as, choking and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use. You will get hands on practice on mannequins and use a training AED.

How does it work? CPR with breaths combines chest compressions and breaths, providing additional oxygen to circulate throughout the body.

Who is CPR for? Anyone who is in cardiac arrest, including:  adults and teens, infants and children, pregnant women and any victims of drowning, drug overdose, collapse due to breathing problems or prolonged cardiac arrest. Often necessary for people who need CPR training for work.

Please note: We don't have any upcoming classes scheduled at this time.  To find an available CPR class visit the American Heart Association's website at cpr.heart.org.

Hands-Only CPR

The Wauwatosa Fire Department offers to demonstrate Hands-Only CPR to members of the public who wish to know more about CPR.  We demonstrate the two steps of Hands-Only CPR, how to do them effectively, and offer hands on instruction with mannequins and trainer AEDs to help drive the skills observed home for participants.

What is Hands-Only CPR?  It's a public awareness campaign to get more people to act when they encounter a cardiac arrest.  Starting point to get more people to learn CPR.

How does it work? Chest compressions are good for the first few minutes someone is in cardiac arrest pushing remaining oxygen through body to keep vital organs alive. Buys time until someone with more skills can provide help.

Who is Hands-Only CPR for?  It can be used on teens and adults by teens and adults.  This will not meet requirements if you need CPR for your job.

For more information please visit the American Heart Association's website at cpr.heart.org.

Stop the Bleed

If you learn the skills and basic tools to stop bleeding in an emergency situation until first responders are able to take over, lives can be saved. We provide training to stop bleeding. Call us or visit www.bleedingcontrol.org for more information.

Lock Box Program

A lock box may reduce the amount of time for emergency responders to enter your home. In an emergency, the dispatcher will notify first responders that there is a lock box on your home. Only the Fire Department has keys to open the lock boxes. No one else can use the box to access your home, not even you. Contact us to purchase a box.

Smoke Alarm Program

Do you check your smoke alarms monthly?  Do you have at least one on each level of your home, and outside of sleeping areas? Have you replaced the battery recently? Does your family have an escape plan and meeting place? If you answer is no to any of these questions, we can help.

We will come to your home and check your smoke alarms. If your alarms are not working properly, we will replace them for you at no charge for Wauwatosa residents. We also go out into the community annually to conduct smoke detector sweeps for neighborhoods.
