Are you planning on selling something door to door? You need a permit for that in Wauwatosa. 

Application Requirements

  • Each applicant must personally appear at the Wauwatosa Police Department, located at 1700 N. 116 Street, and complete a paper application for a Direct Sellers Permit.
  • A photo ID (preferably a State photo driver's license or ID) must be presented with the application.
  • A $50 non-refundable fee must be paid.
  • If issued, the permit must be worn during soliciting.

Upon payment of the $50 fee and submission of the permit application, there is a 72-hour waiting period before the permit is issued to the applicant. If the permit is denied for any reason, the fee is not refundable.

An issued permit is valid for a period of one year from the date of issuance.

Minor Children as Solicitors

Wisconsin State Statue, Chapter 103.23 prohibits minor children under the age of 12 years from being employed or permitted to work at any street trade. Additionally, State Statute 103.25 requires minors under the age of 18 years to hold a work permit in order to be employed or permitted to work at any street trade. A work permit must be attached to the application for any minor child 12 through 17 years of age.
