A Public Art Initiative

The Hartwork Project featured sculptures by three local artists and the community was able to engage with the project by selecting their favorite sculpture.

The top vote-getters had their works on display in the park during the summer months, when Hart Park is hopping pretty much every single day, thanks to Tosa Tonight and other events and festivals, a great playground, sports fields, a skate park, splash pad and more.

The public art projects are tourism initiatives funded through hotel/motel tax revenue, not property tax dollars.

Voting and Results

The City of Wauwatosa issued a call for artists to submit proposals for works. The city’s tourism commission narrowed the field to a group of four finalists, from which one was selected as a finalist, and two winners were determined through a public vote. Voting took place in early 2019, online and in-person at Wauwatosa City Hall, Library and Senior Center. Over 4,600 votes were received from the community. The artists are below.

Artist Bios

	Paul Bobrowitz A mostly self-taught Wisconsin native, Paul has a passion for using repurposed materials in his work. Paul’s relationship-based sculptures are part of a 6-acre outdoor gallery and are included in prominent public and private collections.
	Craig Gray Craig Gray lives in Key West Florida and has created permanent and temporary art displays in 21 different states. Craig works in steel, stone, and concrete with inspiration from the heart inspired by Americana. His goal is to make art that appeals to most and brings a smile to your face.
	Amanda Langer Amanda Langer is an emerging artist who is interested in relationships between unlike materials. Her current body of work explores the combination of crocheted fabric and steel or glass. Her work is meant to be touched or held, to be experienced through interaction and tactile senses. Amanda earned her BFA at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 2017 and currently resides in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.
