In the City of Wauwatosa Community Survey, 60% of residents said maintenance of infrastructure should be a point of emphasis, and 57% of residents said traffic and congestion management should be improved. In response to community feedback, Wauwatosa is proposing a $15 vehicle registration fee to address concerns about reckless driving and road conditions.
If approved, this fee would be dedicated exclusively to traffic calming initiatives and preventative street maintenance, including crack filling and seal coating. These measures are essential to keeping roads in good condition and ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors.
The proposed vehicle registration fee would be $15 per vehicle, and would raise an estimated $407,000 in 2025. Examples of how these funds will be used include:
- Combating reckless driving with new bump-outs
- More pothole repairs
- Sealing and filling cracks
- More preventative measures to avoid future damage to roads
Your input on street safety is appreciated, and will help us direct road safety initiatives in the future.
When will this topic be discussed at city meetings?
The Financial Affairs Committee and Common Council continue to discuss the budget in October and November. See a listing of future meetings about the budget, including the proposed vehicle registration fee.
