Railroad Safety Study: Open House

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (with support from the City of Wauwatosa) earned a federal grant to study rail corridor safety along State Street in Wauwatosa. This includes five crossings along the railroad line between Harwood Avenue to 63rd Street.

City staff had initial meetings with multiple agencies involved in railroad safety, collected data about the crossings, met in the field to review data, and discussed potential safety improvements.

Next, we will be talking with the public about their experiences at these railroad crossings: WisDOT is leading an open house on November 15 between 4:30 – 6:30 pm. There is no formal presentation. Staff will explain the safety study, the types of improvements we are evaluating, and other considerations regarding safety in this railroad corridor. The open house will be hosted at Wauwatosa City Hall’s Lower Civic Center, 7725 W North Avenue.

Possible safety improvements are still being evaluated, and funding would need to be secured before implementation.
