We invite you to attend the public open house on Thursday, December 15, 5 - 7 pm at St. Jude the Apostle Church at 734 Glenview Avenue in Wauwatosa.
You can learn about two upcoming construction projects:
1) Honey Creek Flood Management and Habitat Restoration Project:
- learn about the next steps in the project design
- find out about the timeline for the project
- ask your questions of the project team
This project will result in a naturalized creek channel, slowed creek flows during rain events, improved aquatic and streambank habitat, reconnection of the creek to its flood plain, and restoration of 8,660 feet of Honey Creek.
2) Wisconsin Avenue Bridge Replacement
We are planning the replacement of the Wisconsin Avenue Bridge over Honey Creek. The bridge was constructed in 1934 and is in need of replacement. An additional challenge of this bridge reconstruction is that during significant flooding (known as a 100-year flooding event), the bridge and Wisconsin Avenue are under two feet of water, which blocks emergency vehicle traffic going to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Campus.
Wauwatosa was recently notified that the state will contribute approximately $2.8 million in funding for this infrastructure project. This additional funding will allow us to raise the bridge out of the floodplain.
