Wauwatosa Cemetery Cleanup

The Annis Avery Hill Chapter, NSDAR will be hosting a cleanup day at the Wauwatosa Cemetery on Saturday September 14, 2019 from 9:30 - 11:30 am. Activities will include an introduction to cemetery preservation, proper cleaning techniques, and maintenance. We will also be weeding the garden areas. The cemetery is located at 7725 W. North Avenue, north of Longfellow Middle School.

The Wauwatosa Cemetery was established in 1854 and by 1860, the cemetery was moved to its current location. The Underwood, Hoyt, Swan, Jacobus, and Falk families are all buried in the cemetery, along with James Morgan, a Revolutionary War Veteran. Annis Avery Hill, a Revolutionary War daughter, is also buried in the cemetery and is the namesake of the Wauwatosa Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter.

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 177,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations. DAR members are committed to volunteer service having served more than 12.5 million hours in communities throughout the world during the past three years.
