2016 Sewer Rate Increases
Overview
Started in 2012 and continuing for the next 7-10 years, Wauwatosa is strategically undertaking multiple large sewer rebuilding projects to replace pipes at the end of their useful life. Most of the sewer infrastructure was installed 75-100 years ago. Between 2012 and 2014, the City repaired and/or replaced 107,680 feet, or almost 21 miles, of sanitary sewer and 50,800 feet, or about 10 miles, of storm sewer. All infrastructure replacements are intended to provide Wauwatosa residents and businesses with a greatly improved sewer infrastructure that addresses basement backups, surface flooding, and pipe failure problems experienced over the past several years.

Sanitary Sewer Rates
The sanitary sewer portion of your water utility bill will increase by about 7% in 2016. Based on average residential water consumption, the sanitary sewer charge will increase from $99.10 per quarter to $105.86 or from $33.03 to $35.29 per month.

The 2017-2020 rates are estimates only and will require subsequent Common Council approval.
