There are many benefits to becoming a part of the Wauwatosa Police Reserve. You will receive a first hand glimpse into the world of law enforcement through extensive training, patrol participation, and event activities. In fact, many members of the WPR go on to successful careers the law enforcement field.
Additionally, belonging to the WPR also helps build many personal qualities such as responsibility, motivation, a sense of duty, and self-confidence. Yet another benefit is the self-satisfaction of volunteering your time and giving back to the community and its citizens. The most satisfying benefit of becoming a Wauwatosa Police Reserve is the friendships that you will make amongst the Reserve Unit and the Police Department.
In order to be one of the finest Reserve organizations, each reserve is trained and expected to show proficiency in many aspects of law enforcement including, but not limited to:

- Emergency Vehicle Operations
- Firearms Use and Techniques
- Legal Lecture
- Traffic and Pedestrian Control
- Officer Survival Techniques
- Personal Physical Fitness
- Squad Riding Tactics
- Traffic Stop Contacts
- Two Way Radio Procedures
Each member of the WPR will be provided with quality uniforms and accessories similar to those used by regular officers. Reserve Officers may also elect to purchase optional tactical equipment such as extra handcuffs, an expandable baton, etc. Uniforms are worn at all events where a member is scheduled for duty, unless otherwise instructed. Uniforms are also worn to monthly meetings and training as directed by the Reserve Captain.
