Patrol Division
Overview
The Patrol Division is divided into 3 shifts that provide 24-hour service to the community. Each Patrol Division shift is commanded by a Lieutenant. In addition, two Sergeants are assigned as supervisors. There are two Accident Investigators/Evidence Technicians assigned to the 1st and 2nd shift, and one assigned to the 3rd shift. The Patrol Division responds to over 32,000 calls for service a year.

The Patrol Division, in most cases, is the first responder to calls for service. For patrol purposes, the City has been divided into seven squad areas; each patrolled by one officer on each shift. Additionally, there are one or two radar/traffic enforcement squads that are assigned to high accident locations or where citizen complaints of speeding have been received. Each shift also assigns officers to directed patrol in areas where crimes are being committed on a frequent basis. Primarily during the summer months, some officers are assigned to bicycle patrol and foot patrol.

Since 2009, from early spring through late fall, weather permitting, motor cycle patrols enhance the traffic enforcement effort.

The Accident Investigators/Evidence Technicians are responsible for the investigation of fatal or serious personal injury accidents as well as the investigation and follow-up on reported hit-and-run vehicle accidents. They are also assigned to photography and evidence collections and preservation of areas at major crime scenes.
