The forest is managed following a comprehensive management plan, including an electronic street tree inventory, which identifies and locates every public tree in the City. The management goal is to achieve industry standards for species composition, health and safety, and pruning frequency as established by the International Society of Arboriculture
Master Tree Plan
The City of Wauwatosa developed a master tree plan to bring more diversity to the urban forest. Diversity is so important because it offers protection against the rapid spread of disease like Dutch elm disease in the 1960's. The tree selections are also site-specific; terrace width, wet or dry conditions, overhead wires, etc. We plant the same trees along a street because it offers ease of maintenance, as well as a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Check the Master Tree Plan
to find what tree will be planted on your street.
