Licensing & Inspections
The Wauwatosa Health Department inspects over 450 city- and state-licensed establishments to ensure adherence to defined federal, state, and local codes and safety guidelines. The establishments that are inspected at least annually include:
Selling Food in the City of Wauwatosa
- Restaurants and food establishments
- Hotels, motels, and rooming houses
- Public swimming pools
- Vending machines
- School cafeterias
The food business is a regulated business. The City of Wauwatosa Health Department licenses all food businesses in the city. There are three different food licenses
- Retail Food
- City Food
Any establishment that sells food, whether it is candy and soda or steak and lobster, needs a license. The requirements for food operations are found in the Wisconsin Food Code, which is state law. The code is adopted into the Wauwatosa City Ordinance
