Billing & Rate Information
Billing Information
Water, sewer, and storm water bills are issued quarterly and are mailed on or before the first of the month. These bills are due on the 20th of each month. A late payment charge of 1% will be applied to the outstanding balance on the 21st of each month.  Any unpaid balances as of September 21st are considered delinquent.  If delinquent balances are not paid by November 1st a 10% penalty will be added to the account.  If total delinquent balances are not paid on or before November 15th, they will be transferred to the property tax bill.

All bills are issued to the owner or resident. If the customer desires, the bill can be mailed to a different address other than the service address.  The customer should then contact the Water Utility.

Water Bill Summary
All water rates are set by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
Water Service Charge - A fixed charge based on the size of the meter at the property.
Water Usage Charge - A charge based on the quantity of water used determined from actual quarterly meter readings.
Public Fire Protection Charge - A fixed charge based on meter size for the use of hydrants for fire protection service.  The charge recovers the cost of water for fighting fires and the extra capacity built into the system necessary to rapidly deliver a large volume of water to a fire anywhere within the municipality's water service area.  These costs include a portion of the pumps, storage facilities, water mains, hydrants and an estimated quantity of water used for this purpose.
Private Fire Protection Charge - A fixed charge for an unmetered connection to the water main for the purpose of supplying water to private fire protection systems such as sprinkler systems or private fire hydrants.

All sewer rates are set by the City of Wauwatosa.
Sewer Connection Charge - A fixed charge for connection to the City of Wauwatosa sanitary sewer system.
Local Sewer Usage Charge - A charge that is based on water usage, for maintenance of the City of Wauwatosa sanitary sewer system.
MMSD Sewer Usage Charge - A charge that is based on water usage, to cover the billings from the MMSD for the treatment of the water.
Storm Water Usage Charge - A fixed charge that is based on the amount of impervious area on a property, for maintenance of the City of Wauwatosa storm sewer system.

Methods of Payment
Payments for water bills must be received in the office of the City Treasurer on or before the due date of the bill.  Utility customers may mail their payment using the return envelope included with the bill or pay in person with cash or check at the Treasurer’s office located in City Hall.  Their hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.   The City of Wauwatosa has a night depository that can be used for all payments when the Treasurer’s office is closed.  It is located at the south-west end of City Hall by the employee entrance.  If payments are taken out of your account directly by your bank, please allow enough time for processing the payment by your bank to avoid any late payment charges.  For your convenience, the City of Wauwatosa also currently accepts online payments for water bills.  To make payments online enter the Online Payment Center.
